Hiring a Builder in BC: A Consumer Protection Guide
BC Housing’s Licensing and Consumer Services new guide...
The Community Housing Fund (CHF) supports the development and operations of mixed-income rental housing for low- and moderate- income households. It serves individuals, couples, families, seniors, and people with disabilities, capable of living independently without on-site support services. The fund also supports women and their children who have experienced or are at risk of violence; individuals leaving transitional or supportive housing that can live independently without supports; youth, including those transitioning out of care and equity and/or rights-seeking community members.
This is a rolling RFP, meaning project proposals will be accepted on an ongoing basis until CHF funding is fully allocated. BC Housing encourages non-profit and Indigenous housing providers, First Nations, housing co-operatives, and municipalities to apply. Opportunities also exist for private developers by collaborating with a non-profit housing provider, who would be the primary applicant.
To ensure more homes people can afford are built faster, new Community Housing Fund proposals will no longer need to meet BC Housing Design Guidelines & Construction Standards, but must meet the BC Building Code and any local bylaws. By removing this requirement, BC Housing is making it less costly to build the homes people need, making the building process more efficient and flexible and reducing the complexity and cost of the design process. This change also allows a more adaptive approach to ensure rental housing construction better meets the needs and conditions of individual communities.
