    To inform an “outlook” for sustainable real estate in 2023, ULI's Randall Lewis Center for Sustainability in Real Estate and Ferguson Partners convened a series of roundtable discussions with members of sustainability-focused Product Councils in the Americas, Asia Pacific, and Europe. Based on the insights provided, ULI and Ferguson Partners identified five key issues for the upcoming year, and beyond, in the annual ULI Sustainability Outlook publication.

    Katie Blum

    Director of Development, East West Partners

    Katie joined East West Partners in 2016. Katie spent her first couple years with East West in Denver focusing on project management for The Coloradan and then as the Director of Acquisitions. Katie moved to Charleston in 2020 to manage the development of East West Partners’ new project on Kiawah Island, The Cape on Kiawah. Before joining East West Partners, Katie worked in finance for William Blair & Company and J.P. Morgan, led business development efforts for multiple nonprofits, and was a real estate development associate and LEED consultant for Navarro Lowery. She earned an MBA from the University of Denver and a BA from Duke University. Katie currently resides in Charleston with her husband Travis and son Banks.

    Sarah Cullins Nezamis

    Managing Director, Ferguson Partners

    Sarah Cullins Nezamis is a Managing Director at Ferguson Partners, based in the firm’s Chicago office. Her practice focuses on C-Suite and Board recruitment across the commercial real estate industry. She leads the firm’s Retail Real Estate Practice and General Counsel Practice, and she also participates in the REIT Practice. Ms. Cullins Nezamis specializes in client and engagement management, candidate development and evaluation, and the presentation of qualified candidates to clients. A licensed Attorney in the State of Illinois, she excels in sourcing candidates through comprehensive research and broad analytical evaluation. Prior to joining Ferguson Partners in 2015, she worked as an Assistant Vice President and Division Director at Robert Half Legal, where she specialized in recruiting highly skilled legal professionals for law firms and corporate legal departments. Ms. Cullins Nezamis holds a Juris Doctor degree from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Michigan State University.

    Daniel Chang

    European Head ESG, Hines Europe Ltd

    Daniel Chang is European Head of ESG at Hines and in his role focuses on the transition to decarbonisation, enhancing meaningful social engagement in the built environment, and bolstering governance frameworks. Daniel joined Hines in 1999 as Development Manager and from 2009 to 2021 was a Portfolio Asset Manager in investment management. He continues to play a key part in the success of Hines’ European Funds with all 4 funds achieving 5 green stars in 2022 by GRESB and several being awarded as Global Sector Leaders, including the Hines European Core Fund (HECF), achieving this recognition for the last six consecutive years. In addition, HECF won the PREA open-end fund ESG award in 2021 and 2022, with Daniel playing an instrumental part in this accolade. Daniel sits on the Advisory Board for the ULI Randall Lewis Center for Sustainability in Real Estate, which is dedicated to creating healthy, resilient, and high-performance communities around the world. Daniel is also part of the C Change steering committee and is a member of ULI’s Sustainability Council in Europe. Prior to Hines, Daniel worked as an architect at Architecture Studio in Paris. Daniel holds a BSc in Architecture from the University of Maryland and an MBA and MS in Urban Planning from Columbia University.
