    Coffee and Conversations is ULI BC’s monthly early morning coffee speaker event, where all real estate professionals can drop in to meet other like-minded colleagues and hear new thoughts and ideas surrounding real estate development. Developers, builders, architects, urban planners, engineers, acquisition officers, brokers, mortgage professionals, appraisers, students – all real estate focused professionals…this event is for you! The topic will be “Envelope Engineering, Energy Modeling + Entrepreneurship”. Chad will be joining us for a conversation about his entrepreneurial career path, the history of building science in British Columbia, where he sees the industry going with BC Energy Step Code and how private entities + the public will be affected, along with lessons learned.The discussion will be followed by a Q&A.

    Chad Cranswick P.Eng is Co-Owner and Principal of BC Building Science, one of British Columbia’s leading envelope engineering and building energy consultancy firms. With over 500 projects completed in all asset classes, housing types, and building ages across British Columbia, Chad has been a preeminent and trusted industry source, partner, and advisor. Chad and the growing team at BC Building Science have extensive experience with building envelope, thermal bridging, air tightness, energy commissioning/modeling, waterproofing on new developments, existing projects, and renovations. They work with private industry on practical and detailed envelope + energy solutions, while advising multiple levels of government on building science practices. Their team is continuing to grow to service client’s needs now with offices in Victoria and Los Angeles and projects up and down the West Coast. An Engineer by trade, Chad joined BC Building Science with his BCIT classmate and close friend, Andrew Creighton, 25 years ago in 1998. Having grown his career during the most transformative time in the development and construction industry, he has been through multiple iterations of the BC Building Code and changes within the building science industry, including: the “leaky condo crisis”, rainscreen technology, specialty structural design, depreciation reports, BC Energy Step Code and now the calculation of building carbon emissions on new developments.
