BC Housing is announcing a significant update to the BC Builds program by launching the Housing Development Opportunity platform to match zoned land with developers and housing operators.  Eight parcels of underused, publicly owned land from the Interior of B.C. to Vancouver Island are now available for housing development, and local governments have pre-zoned these sites for multi-unit residential use, cutting down timelines and lowering costs associated with rezoning.  BC Builds is seeking developers and housing operators to partner with as more housing development opportunities become available throughout the province.

The eight new sites are in addition to four BC Builds projects located in North Vancouver, Duncan, Gibsons, and Vancouver, which are expected to deliver approximately 524 homes for people with middle incomes. More sites will be available as BC Builds staff work with First Nations, local governments, and other community landowners to create more housing for middle-income households across the province. 

BC Builds will be hosting separate 60-minute information sessions for the eight new sites in the coming weeks. These information sessions are for developers and housing operators who may be interested in learning about partnership opportunities and how to submit housing development proposals for these BC Builds site.

Session 1: District of Elkford, 421 Boivin Rd (12pm – 1pm, May 6 2024)
Session 2: Kamloops, 377 Tranquille Avenue (3pm – 4pm, May 6 2024)
Session 3: Sooke, 6671 Wadams Way (10:30am – 11:30am, May 9 2024)
Session 4: Township of Langley, 20230 72B Ave (8:30am – 9:30am, May 10 2024)
Session 5: Township of Langley, 27200 Block Fraser Highway (9:30am – 10:30am, May 10 2024)

Session 7: Kelowna, 1428 St Paul Street (12pm – 1pm, May 10 2024)
