Purpose Built Rental Housing and Technology are mainstays of today’s real estate landscape, and both are innovating at breakneck speed. In the next installment of ULI BC’s Rental Speaker Series we’re excited to bring you a panel of rental and technology industry experts from Vancouver and Seattle including: Bosa Properties, BC Housing, Smith+Andersen, and Thrive Communities.

Hear from our speakers about how technology is leveraged to efficiently operate their businesses, best practices for creating value for renters and landlords today, and where the rental and technology sectors are headed tomorrow and in the future.

    Speakers

    Victoria Walsh

    Smith + Andersen (Vancouver)

A natural team leader and proactive planner, Victoria’s security & technology engineering expertise has supported some of the most complex construction projects in western Canada. From a correctional centre in Whitehorse to a sophisticated Information Communications Technology implementation in Vancouver she has consistently been called upon whenever systems project management and planning is required. She is also legally qualified as an expert security engineering witness. Equally passionate about strategic planning for future technologies and “digging in” to details Victoria’s perspective is that technology is effective if it’s the right tool in the right hands to help them do their job better.

    Dylan Jackson

Senior Leasing Manager , Bosa Properties

Dylan, a Vancouver local, initially dipped his toes into commercial leasing with Anthem. Moving to Bosa, he helped excel their rental portfolio. Dylan has dabbled in every step of the process, managing and growing Bosa's rental arm, starting with 1142 Granville to an exponentially increased residential lease-up portfolio. With more residential lease-up in the future, Bosa's technological and creative initiatives have pushed the needle forward on rental community standards.

    Paul Edgeman

Vice President, Marketing and Technology , Thrive Communities

Paul was born and raised in Washington State and is the VP of Marketing and Technology at Thrive Communities. Thrive is a Seattle-based property management firm that prides itself on its boutique approach; this is in part by trusting and hiring the right people. Thrive has 13 active lease-ups and over 100 total communities under management. Paul has excellent insights into how marketing projects have changed with technological development, and how harnessing data can give significant insights into an organization’s leasing efficiencies.

    John McEown

Associate Vice President, Development Strategies, BC Housing

With a Masters of Urban Studies from Simon Fraser University and a passion for mixed-use/income developments, when he is not playing rec league soccer, John is most definitely thinking about urban planning. Being a senior member of BC Housing's Housing Hub office, which partners with private developers to build purpose-built rentals, John's insights and experience provide an unique approach to his role at BC Housing and within the community.
