    We're thrilled to invite you to the third event in WLI BC's Certificate Series on Development Community, where we'll be focusing on Transit Integration with Development and Urban Design. This insightful session will delve into the challenges and lessons from the Broadway Subway Project.

    At this event, we have an incredible lineup of industry experts who will share their knowledge and experiences. Our speakers include:

    Michelle Lee-Hunt - City of Vancouver, Senior Architect, Urban Design + Integration Lead
    Steve Brown - City of Vancouver, Manager, Transit Integration and Projects
    John Grottenberg - City of Vancouver, Senior Planner in the Special Projects Office  

    Together, they will discuss the technical, design, logistical, and regulatory challenges encountered during the process of achieving integration at station sites for the Broadway Subway Project. These lessons learned will inform the approach to the next phase of the project, ensuring a successful extension out to UBC.

    Michelle Lee-Hunt

    City of Vancouver

    Michelle Lee-Hunt, Architect-AIBC, AICP, is the Senior Architect, Urban Design and Integration Lead directing the Architecture and Urban Interface practice for Transit Integration and Projects at the City of Vancouver Her work includes concept development for Broadway Subway, the extension to UBC, major station upgrades and integration of transit projects hyper-proximate to development. Her professional experience includes leading urban design and corridor planning for the City of Calgary’s Green Line LRT and Urban Integration document; City of Surrey’s City Parkway LRT and station design of the Lower Mainland’s Evergreen Line as well as several institutional facilities and mixed-use buildings. She holds a Master’s of Architecture and Bachelor of Architectural Studies from Carleton University.

    John Grottenberg

    Senior Planner, City of Vancouver

    John Grottenberg is a Senior Planner in the Special Projects Office at the City of Vancouver with 15 years of experience in community planning and land use policy, transportation planning, public realm initiatives, and current planning. Most recently John led the planning team for the Broadway Plan, a major initiative to create a comprehensive land use plan to integrate new housing, job space and amenities around the Broadway Subway. The Plan was approved by Vancouver City Council in June 2022.

    Steve Brown

    Project Manager, Transportation Plan Engineering, City of Vancouver

    Steve Brown manages the City of Vancouver’s Transit Integration and Projects Branch. He leads a team that works with TransLink and other senior governments to facilitate planning and construction of transit in the City of Vancouver. This includes upgrades to existing SkyTrain stations, facilitating the construction of the Broadway Subway project, planning for the extension of SkyTrain to the University of British Columbia and bus speed and reliability improvements. Steve obtained his engineering degree in 1999 from the University of British Columbia and has over 25 years of experience in the Transportation both in the private and public sector.
