    Join ULI BC’s Young Leaders Group at our bi-annual Speed Networking gathering!

    At this exclusive event, you will meet a hand-selected group of acknowledged industry experts each with their own unique trajectories into the urban development industry. Join us to network, explore careers, and learn how accomplished professionals in their chosen field have navigated their own career paths.

    Participants will hear from all panelists before getting the exclusive opportunity to engage with each panelist in a ‘speed-mentoring’ format. The evening will conclude with an informal mix and mingle - light refreshments will be provided.

    Sophie Mercier

    Evoke Buildings

    Sophie is a building envelope specialist with a 25-year history of working collaboratively with industry partners. While her career started in the midst of the leaky condo crisis and included repairing buildings with water penetration issues, her attention migrated to new construction early on and is now more than ever focussed on establishing not only durable but also thermally efficient building enclosures. Aside from her project work, she is involved on many technical committees and currently Chairs the EGBC Building Enclosure advisory group. She is co-founder of Evoke Buildings.

    Dani Ferenc

    President and Co-Founder, NEST Projects Foundation

    Dani has been part of the construction industry for about two decades. She has over 10 years of senior level management experience in various construction build forms. Dani has built over 800 multi-family units and has demonstrated strong leadership in the management of trades and sub-trades. Her expertise in building, growing and training construction teams sets her apart as an industry exemplar. Dani has always been a huge supporter of women and minorities in the construction industry and most recently she has shifted her focus to bring more attention to the Fraser Valley.

    Ron Emerson

    Ron J Emerson is a Vice President with leading global real estate services firm Cushman & Wakefield. Based in Vancouver, Ron is an industrial market intelligence specialist focusing on Industrial Sales & Leasing, Investment and Portfolio Management throughout the Richmond, Delta and South Vancouver Industrial markets. Ron is a 15-year commercial real estate industry veteran and second generation broker who has represented large users and owners of industrial space in a wide array of real estate transactions. He has developed key relationships with top industrial developers, investors, landlords and tenants including: Beedie Developments, Pure Industrial Real Estate Trust, Porte and Industrial Alliance. Ron’s organized and systematic approach to business has translated into 138 industrial lease and sale transactions totaling $283 million over the last two and a half years.     Eamon Sexton

    With a master’s degree in engineering, Eamon Sexton was first introduced to the construction industry after moving to Canada in 2010. Initially taking a job with a subcontractor, while looking for an engineering position, Eamon unintentionally stepped into a career in project management and never looked back. Eamon has held roles in both pre-construction and construction - eventually working his way up from project coordinator to director. Currently, he oversees a portfolio of multi-family residential projects with a total capital value in excess of one billion dollars. As Director, Eamon focuses on client relations to deliver successful projects from feasibility to homeowner move-in. His unique blend of education and practical expertise makes Eamon an invaluable leader in the construction field.

    Jaraad Marani

    With a background in City Planning Jaraad leads the Development Advisory team for Western Canada. Development Advisory helps support clients with real estate expertise through development feasibility, proforma analysis, capital stack strategies & development management through to occupancy and stabilization. Jaraad leads a team of 12 real estate professionals and the team currently has over a dozen projects in various stages of approvals and construction.

    Amit Price Patel

    Amit is an architect and city planner deeply committed to making inclusive cities of opportunity and human connection. Motivated by his vision of urban places that promote climate resiliency and social equity, Amit has led the design of diverse complex city-shaping projects throughout his career. At DIALOG, Amit collaborates with clients, colleagues and community members on projects ranging from urban design guidelines for gently incorporating density into existing neighbourhoods; mixed-use and mixed-income transit oriented places; social housing for vulnerable communities; an aging campus for a spectrum of seniors; mass timber student housing; a innovation districts; and high density residential projects that help expand housing choices in constrained markets. Amit brings a thoughtful attitude, creative problem solving, team leadership, great communication, a visionary perspective, and a balanced approach to every design challenge. Viewing city-building as a holistic effort that requires the careful and creative integration of the public realm, buildings, infrastructure, programming, and landscape to make loved and valued places, Amit brings expertise in urban design and planning, architectural design, community engagement, storytelling, design strategy and process, and team management to every project. Through the facilitation of open, positive, and constructive conversations, Amit helps the best ideas rise to the surface in a compelling, engaging and respectful way. He believes that great cities are about starting from a place of optimism, building meaningful connections between people, and providing ways for everyone to better their lives through educational and work opportunities. Design is one of many tools to make these things happen, and Amit is happy to provide leadership and contribute to any efforts that help reach these goals. Amit’s ideas and award-winning projects have been shared widely through speaking engagements, interviews, and publications. Having worked in the San Francisco Bay Area, Boston, St. Louis and Johannesburg, Amit believes in design approaches rooted in place. He has won or been on the winning teams for several international design competitions and has served as a Design Advisor at the Mayors’ Institute on City Design, as well as the national board president of Architects Designers Planners for Social Responsibility. Amit holds Masters of City Planning and Architecture degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, where he is currently teach a graduate design studio course on the topic of “From Scarcity to Abundance” in urban environments.

    Kira Gerwing

    Chief Real Estate Investment Officer, Sacha Investments Ltd.

    Kira brings compassionate and strategic leadership to changing systems that drive how we own, steward, and develop land. In her role as Chief Real Estate Investment Officer for Sacha Investments Ltd, she sources impact investment opportunities in affordable housing, regenerative organic agriculture, and ecoforestry for Western Canada. Prior to this, Kira was the Senior Manager in Community Investment at Vancity Credit Union. She has a master’s degree in Community and Regional Planning and practiced as an urban planner with the City of Vancouver for almost a decade. Kira has a passion for finding creative ways to realise everyone’s fundamental right to flourish. She also loves downhill skiing, cooking, and riding her bike to get around the city.
