    At this exclusive event, you will meet a hand-selected group of acknowledged industry experts and hear first hand how young leaders can better understand and utilize mentorship opportunities to cultivate their careers. Join us to network, explore careers, and learn how accomplished professionals in their chosen field have navigated their own career paths.

    With a foreword from recruitment expert Julie Taylorson, participants will hear from a handful of panelists (see below) before getting the exclusive opportunity to engage with each panelist in a ‘speed-mentoring’ format. The evening will conclude with an informal mix and mingle - light refreshments will be provided.

    Michael Leckie

    Principal Architect, Leckie Studio Architecture

    Michael Leckie founded Leckie Studio Architecture + Design - an interdisciplinary design studio based in Vancouver, Canada. He engages in the practice of design across a range of scales and media – including architecture, interiors, installations, and product design. Notable projects he has been involved in include the Broadway & Alma development with Westbank and the UBC Arts Student Centre with UBC Properties Trust.

    Joanne Sawatzky

    Managing Director of Regenerative Built Environment Services, Light House Sustainability Society

    Joanne leads the Light House regenerative team, providing regenerative visioning and technical expertise on Light House projects. She draws from her 20+ years of experience in the green building industry, finding way to elevate a built environment that nurtures both human and ecological health. With a background in architecture, building science and energy efficient buildings, Joanne is especially familiar with the construction of building systems, materials and assemblies. Although she enjoys getting into the details, Joanne identifies success when teams work together to unlock big underlying sustainability goals and support them in achieving these goals.

    William Azaroff

    Chief Executive Officer , Brightside Community Homes Foundation

    William is the CEO of Brightside Community Homes Foundation, an organization dedicated to making housing accessible for those who struggle to meet the demands of market housing in Vancouver. His book, Everything I Learned About Leadership I Learned From Filmmaking, focuses on leadership lessons gained from the dozen years he spent as an independent filmmaker. William was a long-time executive at Vancity, performing many senior leadership roles at the credit union, and is currently Vice-Chair on the board of the BC Non-Profit Housing Association, and is former chair of Modo and the Vancity Community Foundation.

    Julie Taylorson

    Partner, Taylor Ryan

    Julie is a Founding Partner with Taylor Ryan and leads the Real Estate Practice working with Real Estate Developers across the Pacific North West. Julie is responsible for leading a team of Principal’s providing recruitment services for all Development Management and Commercial Real Estate as well as providing Human Resource Management services to small/medium size clients. As a key figure within Taylor Ryan’s Real Estate Practice, Julie sits on the Board of Directors and is Chair of the Governance Committee for Catalyst Community Developments. She is also a Board Director with Great Northern Way Trust. Julie holds a Master’s degree in Human Resource Management; a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology; Executive Management training through UBC’s Sauder School of Business, as well as professional designations with the CHRP (HRMA) in Canada and Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development in the UK. With 15+ years of professional experience Julie brings a breadth of knowledge across all areas of HR and Recruitment.

    Dan Cupa

    Vice President, Development, Bosa Properties

    Dan Cupa, Vice President Development at Bosa Properties, has over 15 years working in the sector. With experience in all asset classes, Dan currently oversees a development portfolio including a number of large-scale master planned communities and urban mixed-use projects. Dan's passion for placemaking and value creation started with a degree in planning and later in economics and his career has led him from development management consulting to working on behalf of a pension fund, then a merchant developer prior to his current role.

    Champston Le

    Director, Axiom Builders

    Champston Le began his journey in construction with Axiom Builders as a project coordinator after graduating from BCIT’s Architectural and Building Engineering Technology program in 2008. Originally based out of Vancouver, Champston was recognized for his potential to grow Axiom Builders’ presence in the Calgary market in 2011, where he and his team helped manage the completion of significant projects including The Guardian - Calgary’s tallest residential development, and the SODO Residence and Residence Inn by Marriott. Champston has managed over two million square feet of residential construction, amounting to over $500 million in contract value. Currently as a Director, back in Vancouver, Champston oversees the Redevelopment of Richmond Centre and The Amazing Brentwood – two of Axiom Builder’s largest projects under construction. The next chapter of his career will be dedicated to the successful completion of these projects, but more importantly, the successful growth of his team. Champston leads a team of over 20 individuals - many of which have been in the industry for under 5 years. With a contagious passion for construction, Champston is a dedicated mentor and is focused on training the next generation of industry leaders.

    Ryan Thé

    Director of Development, Third Space

    Ryan Thé is the Vice President of Development at Third Space Properties, Vancouver’s first triple bottom line real estate development and management company. Ryan has over 15 years of experience in real estate and has held senior roles in both the public and private sector. Ryan is passionate about focusing his experience in delivering and managing all asset types through the ‘triple P’ lens – People, Planet, and Profit.

    Renato Souza

    VP of Virtual Construction, Axiom Builders

    Renato Souza has over 10 years of Virtual Construction and Building Information Modeling (BIM) experience. Starting with Axiom Builders in 2019 as the Director of Virtual Construction, Renato oversaw the implementation of new services related to new technologies and the development of a virtual construction team. His focused effort and dedication towards training, onboarding, and developing value-based services for our project teams has been a game changer for our company. Starting with a core team of three, working on a handful of projects, Renato has established a Virtual Construction department with 14 individuals from BIM Coordinators, Design Managers, and specialists in various fields such as Mechanical, Envelope and Construction Planning. Drawing on his extensive experience in BIM, Construction, and Design, Renato delivers an expert and cutting-edge perspective to the construction industry. His favorite part about the construction industry is getting people excited about new ways of utilizing virtual technology. This passion has led Renato to his new role within Axiom Builders – VP, Construction Technology and Innovation.
