Rotating between Vancouver BC, Seattle, and Portland each year, the Cascadia Regional Conference (CRC) convenes real estate and built environment professionals from across the Pacific Northwest around the most important topics in the industry. This year’s event is coordinated by ULI British Columbia’s Young Leaders Group and is open to all.

Until the 1980s, Vancouver was a typical mid-sized North American city. But after the city hosted Expo 86, something extraordinary happened. This otherwise unremarkable urban center was transformed into an inspiring world-class city celebrated for its livability, sustainability, and competitiveness. Larry Beasley will tell his story of the urban planning phenomenon called “Vancouverism” and the philosophy and practice behind it. Telling it from an insider’s perspective, the former chief planner of Vancouver, will trace the principles that inspired Vancouverism and the policy framework developed to implement it.

In celebration of the Land and the homecoming of the Squamish Nation on their reclaimed territory, Sen̓áḵw is envisioned with a re-imagined ‘Towers in the Park’ approach. Bright, open courtyards, liberated ground plane, rich and vibrant multi-tiered landscape for social spaces, commercial and recreational activity, and artistic interventions that seek to enrich the natural and cultural contexts of the site. Join the Squamish Nation and West Bank properties for an exclusive look at the proposed form of development, that has naturally emerged from a series of urban design, programmatic and aspirational influences that respond to the unique location and historic context of the site.

Inspired by the traditional oral storytelling and values of the Squamish Nation, their deep embrace of Nature – the mountains, forest and water and their craftwork traditions of carving and weaving – was the emergence of two distinct building typologies whose paths seamlessly converge at the foot of the Burrard Street Bridge.

Bentall Centre
Come tour a successful example of adaptive re-use in the heart of Downtown Vancouver, at the iconic Bentall Centre operated and co-owned by Hudson Pacific Properties.

Built between 1967-1981, Bentall Centre is a 1.5 million-square-foot office and retail campus that has long been a landmark destination for Vancouver’s leading companies and is now being transformed and modernized with offerings such as reactivated public spaces, community events, arts and culture programming, and more to serve the public and tenants alike. Since acquiring Bentall Centre in 2019 in a joint venture partnership with Blackstone, Hudson Pacific has spearheaded renovations such as a rooftop dog park, state of the art athletic centre, edible gardens, a retail pop-up program, reimagined outdoor spaces, and infrastructure to create collaborative meeting and event spaces such as a conference room/lounge and temporary patio bar.

Hudson Pacific acquires and develops premier creative office and studio properties in tech and media epicenters, including Los Angeles, Silicon Valley, San Francisco, Seattle and Vancouver. It is the largest publicly traded owner of office space in Silicon Valley and one of the largest independent owner/operators of studios in the U.S.

The Stack
Come tour Vancouver's tallest and one of Canada's most sustainable, future-forward office towers. Achieving occupancy in early 2023, the Stack is a 37-storey 550,000 SF AAA office building. It has successfully met the stringent and detailed Canada Green Building Council's Zero Carbon Building Design Standard. The team at Oxford Properties ensured their most recent project created economic and social value through a forward thinking design inclusive of a solar roof, triple pane windows, leading edge rainwater management system, LEED V4 Platinum Core and Shell certification and many more that you will learn about! Designed by the famous James Cheng, the tower's external design showcases a complex twisting stack that looks different from every angle for the viewer and allows for six outdoor decks with views of Vancouver's natural beauty. At no surprise, the tower is nearly fully leased and contains the vanguard of amenities including a fitness facility, rooftop lounge, bike rentals, full end of trip facilities, a landscaped pocket park, multiple conference rooms, car sharing, and destination dining.The multi-use “boxes” offer differing work environments important in high vacancy economic conditions. The ULI team can't wait to see it!

ULI BC’s summer social is always a highly anticipated event that brings together our young leaders with our most established members.
